I love these. Low articulation. A massive throw back for kids of the 80s.

Wave 0 – Early-Release Two Packs

Hasbro Pulse released a number of the figures in 2 packs prior to their inclusion in the regular waves.

• Iron Man & Black Panther
• Spider-Man & Electro
• Iron Man & Cyclops
• Captain America & Black Panther

The most notable of which is the Iron Man & Black Panther pack which includes deluxe paint jobs.

2021 Q4 Two Pack – Wolverine & Phoenix

See below for my previous predictions; had Wolverine (Brown costume) in Wave 6 and Jean (Marvel Girl costume in Wave 8). Both of which we might still see as Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man have all appeared twice.

Wave 5

Announced at Hasbro Pulse 2021 – the next three of wave 5; Falcon, Venom, Mr Fantastic.

See below for my previous predictions; Got Falcon correct. Mr Fantastic I predicted for wave 8, and I managed to miss Venom!

Wave 6

Wave 6 has dropped! The addition of The Ever-Lovin’ Blue-Eyed Thing completes the Fantastic Four! Thor and Black Widow push us towards the near-completion of the OG MCU Avengers roster with just Hawkeye still to come. Green Goblin is a great addition!

Prediction Explanations: Drafting Wave 5

I really like the unpredictable selections from the previous waves… although there’s a few trends emerging, we’ve half the Fantastic Four and a member of the X-Men in each wave. We’ve got some welcome diversity with a few female characters, black characters, and a villain in each wave. The Hulks show a willingness to cover bigger characters. A few repaints (Spider-Man, US Agent etc). Plus its a retro line so it feels like there’s a grounding in early characters. Plus some flavor of Secret Wars.

So let’s see… How would I construct a Wave 5 for this.

First draft pick: Colossus. Obviously. Continues the X-Men complement, same era as Storm. Russian. Was in Secret Wars with the black symbiote Spider-Man. And if made a little taller and wider covers off the big character for the wave.

Second draft pick: Someone from the Fantastic Four corner of the Marvel Universe… I’m going to go with Doctor Doom. Reed in the same suit as Sue is too obvious. The Thing too bulky for this wave since I have Colossus in there. Doctor Doom also covers the villain. Also Secret Wars alumni.

Third draft pick: A strong female character… could be Black Widow to build into the Avengers compliment, or Wanda, since we already have Vision (that’s hot right now with the tv series), Jean Grey, Shuri or Gamora maybe. I’m going to go left field and pick Firestar to complete Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. It just more exciting!

Fourth draft pick: Easy. Falcon. Hot from the TV series. Was in the Secret Wars line (I had Falcon and Wolverine back in the 80s). Falcon in his traditional costume would be awesome.

Fifth draft pick: Thor and Wolverine seem like obvious choices but I’m going to pick Namor. Its a simpler sculpt. One of Marvel’s oldest characters, and a little left field.

Sixth draft pick: Last pick… tricky. Someone from the Sinister Six maybe… expanding the Spider-Man rogue gallery, and complementing Electro… or what about a Summers… or maybe it should just be Thor. Yes. We need a currently popular headliner for the wave, so Thor it is.

There you go – the prediction is: Colossus, Doctor Doom, Firestar, Falcon, Namor and the mighty Thor. That would be an awesome wave. Let’s see what they produce!

One hour later… Predicting Wave 6

Ok… somewhat silly to continue but I enjoyed thinking it through. I’ve had an unbelievably stressful couple of weeks so if you’ll indulge me while I revel in thinking about something else for 30 minutes. Loud music on. Lets figure this out.

Pick One: Wolverine. Got to be. Another mutant to add to the team. And a headliner right out of the gate. The yellow and brown suited Wolverine from the original Secret Wars line is one of my favorite figures ever made.

Pick Two: I’m tempted to go with Red Skull, but think I’ll opt for Baron Zemo instead. Love that original Secret Wars roster and slightly more current with the tv series.

Pick Three: Gotta be Wanda Maximoff. Good complement to Magneto and Vision already out.

Pick Four: I think it’s got to be the ever-lovin’ blue-eyed Thing. That’d be three out of the FF. And a physically larger character for the wave. Plus just think of the epic battles against Hulk.

Pick Five: Want to start introducing the Defenders or the Guardians of the Galaxy… can we have Luke Cage without the tiara? A “modern” retro version of Power Man without the tiara. It’s my list. Of course we can. A yellow t-shirt wearing Luke Cage it is.

Pick Six: I think we’ve got to finish up the wave with a dark costume. The Punisher with guns accessories, is my final pick.

Prediction: Wolverine, Baron Zemo, Wanda Maximoff, The Thing, Luke Cage, The Punisher.

Predicting Wave 7

Pick One: Got to kick off the wave with an original MCU Avenger… Black Widow.

Pick Two: Doctor Octopus. Ties in nicely with Electro (Sinister Six) and the Secret Wars roster. And covers the villain.

Pick Three: I want to say a purple-garbed Hawkeye but might leave that for Wave 8. Who else would be fun to have? What about one of my favorite characters and one of the five original X-Men; Beast. Yes, let’s go with the blue Beast.

Pick Four: Would love to see Juggernaut to go up against Colossus – classic battle!

Pick Five: Feels like we still need a headliner… what about Deadpool. Everyone loves Deadpool.

Pick Six: Let’s introduce a Guardian to complete the round; Star-Lord. Who? 🙂

Prediction: Black Widow, Doctor Octopus, Beast, Juggernaut, Deadpool, Star-Lord.

Predicting Wave 8

Actually, in some ways it’s getting easier…

Pick One: Mister Fantastic himself Reed Richards. Completes the Fantastic Four.

Pick Two: A purple-garbed Hawkeye. Completes the MCU original Avengers roster.

Pick Three: Gotta be War Machine. Good complement to Avengers and Iron Man.

Pick Four: Jean Grey. Green costume. Complements Cyclops and adds another to the original X-Men roster.

Pick Five: Iron Fist. Good complement to Luke Cage.

Pick Six: Need a villain. Tempted to go with Kang for Secret Wars reasons… but I really like the idea of Mysterio, to build out the Sinister Six.

Prediction: Reed Richards, Hawkeye, War Machine, Jean Grey, Iron Fist, Mysterio

Ok… I’ll finish here. Still a few characters I want to squeeze in. It’s going to be really fun to see what they come out with for subsequent waves. Lets see how accurate I am 🙂

Pick One: Archangel. Finishes off the original five X-Men.

Pick Two: Thanos. Got to have the big bad.

Pick Three: Wasp
